FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

* WHY ARE MY FULL-COVER NAILS SPLITTING DOWN THE MIDDLE?

This is due to poor fit, flat nail bed, and forcing nail. Apply a generous amount of pink gel glue to serve as a “cushion” between your natural nail and the artificial nail. Be sure not to press down too hard, let glue “customize” fit.

* WHY ARE MY ARTIFICIAL NAIL TIPS LIFTING AT STRESS POINTS?

This occurs with improper fit. Do not use tips that are too small. Use a larger size and file the sides of tops to customize fit to your nail.

* WHY DO MY ARTIFICIAL NAILS NOT STAY GLUED ON AND SOMETIMES “POP OFF”?

This occurs with improper fit, and insufficient amount of glue. Apply a generous amount of glue so that any gaps between your natural nail an artificial nail are filled.

* WHY ARE THERE WHITE SPOTS UNDERNEATH ARTIFICIAL NAILS AFTER I APPLY THEM?

If nails do not fit properly and insufficient amount of glue was used, air becomes trapped between the natural nail and artificial nail, creating a “bubble” underneath the nail. If exposed to water, the nail may collect moisture and “condensation” will form inside that pocket of air causing “white spots” to appear. We recommend that you remove nails with air pockets and reapply.

* HOW DO I REMOVE ARTIFICIAL NAILS?

DO NOT pick or pry nails off. Soak in acetone-based remover for several minutes to soften plastic and glue. Gently wipe nails onto paper towels to remove remaining residue. Remove nails even faster using Kiss All or One Artificial Nail Remover to safely and gently remove glue-on nail enhancements, tips, and fabric wraps. Clip and file nail enhancement to break seal of topcoat, Submerge fingers in remover for 2 minutes and dip and twist in remover.

* WHY ARE THE TIP GUIDES NOT STICKING TO MY NAILS?

Nail prep is very important. Be sure to remove all traces of lotion or oils from nail surface before use, complete one hand at a time and allow white tip polish to dry completely before removing tip guides

* MY GEL OVERLAY FROM THE REAL LIFE BRUSH-ON GEL KIT IS NOT DOES NOT DRY, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

If your overlay is not drying completely or surface still “tacky”, apply an additional thin, even, layer of brush-on gel and then another layer of gel activator. The activator fuses with the gel to form overlay but the activator must be applied to WET brush-on gel for it to combine and cure properly.

* WHY DOES MY ACRYIC OVERLAY LOOK YELLOW?

If your acrylic brush is contaminated with other chemicals, such as primer, acetone, or filing dust, this can cause the acrylic overlay to discolor or yellow. Be sure to clean brush thoroughly after each use, allow primer to dry completely before applying acrylic, and allow brush to dry after cleaning.

* WHY IS MY ACRYLIC LIFTING?

One reason for lifting is simply due to nails having an oilier base than most. Applying a second application of primer should help, along with less exposure to water and cleaning solutions. Another reason is due to improper nail prep which will cause lifting of the overlay. Nail surface should be free of all debris, dust, lotions, or oils before applying acrylic. Also, an improper ratio of acrylic liquid to powder will cause an imbalance of curing and the overlay will not properly adhere to the natural nail. Pro tip: Use a DRIER mixture of liquid to powder when forming beads on brush. Try practicing laying beads on a piece of paper. If a bead drops flat quickly, your mixture is too wet – bead should maintain some “roundness" when mixed correctly.

* WHY DOES THE ACRYLIC BRUSH HARDEN AND HAVE CLUMPS?

An acrylic brush must be wiped in between each use. Once you have placed bead of acrylic mixture onto nail surface, wipe against a paper towel so that the leftover mixture never has a chance to harden in the bristles. If this does occur, dip brush in acetone to loosen and wipe onto paper towel until removed. Always clean brush before storing away.

* SOMETIMES THE ACRYLIC FLAKES OFF WHEN FILED, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

Acrylic liquid must be room temperature to form and cure properly. If acrylic is applied in a room that is too cold or if left out in the cold, the mixture formed will “crystallize” and form a hazy film on the overlay surface that will not completely harden and will then flake off when filed. Allow acrylic liquid to warm up to room temperature. If you need to increase temperature more quickly, immerse closed container in a bowl of hot water for several minutes. DO NOT MICROWAVE

* WHY IS MY ACRYLIC OVERLAY IS BRITTLE?

Proper ratio of liquid to powder is the key to proper acrylic application. Too much liquid will cause the overlay to become brittle. Temperature will also affect your overlay. Overexposure to cold weather will dry out not only acrylic, but skin as well.

* WHAT CAUSES THE SILK WRAP TO LIFT?

Applying any fabric wrap too close to skin and cuticle will cause the overlay to lift. Fabric and glue cannot adhere to skin and will peel away quickly. Be sure to leave a small distance between the fabric and cuticle.

* WHY IS MY FABRIC WRAP OVERLAY BRITTLE?

Spraying too much activator too close to nail will damage the overlay. Using excessive activator floods the nail surface making the glue and fabric very brittle, and eventually this will dehydrate the natural nail.

* WHY IS THE WHITE PEELING OFF OF MY FRENCH AIRBRUSHED TIPS?

You need a sufficient layer applied over entire tip to fully cover and protect nail surface. Excessive filing on thin layer of acrylic will also file through protective coating exposing white paint.

* WHY IS THERE A GREEN SPOT ON MY NAIL?

Sometimes, when moisture gets trapped between the natural nail and artificial overlay, a bacterial growth will develop and cause discoloration on the surface of the nail. When applying artificial nails, make sure there are no air pockets as this is where bacteria would begin to form. If you notice a green spot developing, remove nail immediately, apply antiseptic and gently buff the nail surface to remove most of the discoloration.

* I HAVE IRRITATED CUTICLES AND SKIN AFTER NAIL APPLICATION, COULD THIS BE AN ALLERGIC REACION?

Some are highly sensitive to the chemicals in acrylic liquid or glue products. However, you can avoid this type of reaction by carefully applying artificial enhancements making sure not to get any excess on the cuticles or skin. Excessive filing can also irritate cuticles and skin, file gently. An allergy to any product is usually characterized by redness, swelling, and itching of skin with direct contact. Should you experience any pain or severe discomfort, we recommend that you seek the guidance of a healthcare professional

* WHY DO I HAVE BUBBLES IN NAIL POLISH AFTER IT HAS DRIED?

Polish may have been too thick or old, or applied too quickly, not allowing sufficient time for polish to dry in between layers. Apply polish in smooth even strokes starting close to the cuticle and along entire length of nail. Too many brush strokes will cause uneven application and, bubbles.

* MY NATURAL NAILS ARE YELLOW, WHAT CAUSES THIS?

Always use a base coat under your polish colors as the pigment can soak into the layers of your natural nail. Also, try to limit changing polish too frequently. Removers tend to dehydrate the nail causing further weakening and in turn, easier absorption of color pigments to stain.

* HOW CAN I AVOID AIR POCKETS UNDERNEATH MY FULL-COVER NAILS?

Use more glue when applying artificial full-cover nails. Apply glue first to underside of artificial nail and then also to natural nail. Slowly lower artificial nail onto natural nail at cuticle end first allowing nail to “float” on glue and nail surface. Allow the glue to fill any spaces that may occur between the natural nail and artificial nail.

* WHY DO MY ARTIFICIAL NAILS APPEAR DULL?

The use of some cleaning products or hair products (such as hairspray) can damage the protective surface of polished nails and dull the shine of the nail surface. Simply apply an additional layer of topcoat to refresh the glossy shine.
